Schwarz tells how she came to live in Bratislava, Slovakia, in 1938 after being warned about the anti-Semitic regime in her home town, Český Těšín. In Bratislava she was secretary to Gisi Fleischmann, a leader in the Jewish Center (Ustredna Zidov in Slovak, Zentrale der Juden in German) and leader of the Women's International Zionist Organization.
